Nutella Donuts Recipe

These homemade Nutella-filled donuts are soft, fluffy, and indulgent, making them the perfect treat for any occasion. Here’s how to prepare them:

Ingredients:

1 cup warm milk (250 ml)

1 whole egg

1 egg yolk

2 tbsp sugar

2 tsp instant yeast

3 cups all-purpose flour (375 grams)

55 grams unsalted butter (at room temperature)

1 tsp salt

Nutella (for filling)

Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

Activate the Yeast:

In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Stir to dissolve the sugar.

Sprinkle the instant yeast over the milk and stir until fully dissolved. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.

Mix the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

Add the egg, egg yolk, and the activated yeast mixture.

Mix the dough together until it forms a shaggy texture, and then knead in the softened butter until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. This can take about 5-7 minutes by hand or 3-4 minutes with a stand mixer.

Let the Dough Rise:

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap.

Let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until the dough has doubled in size.

Shape the Donuts:

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about ½ inch thickness.

Use a round cookie cutter or a glass to cut out circles of dough.

Fill with Nutella:

Place a small spoonful of Nutella in the center of half of the dough circles.

Take the remaining dough circles and place them on top of the Nutella-filled ones, pressing around the edges to seal the dough and encase the Nutella inside.

Gently roll the filled donuts to smooth out any seams.

Fry the Donuts:

Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium-high heat. You’ll need enough oil to fully submerge the donuts. The oil temperature should be around 350°F (175°C).

Carefully drop the donuts into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry each donut for about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

Use a slotted spoon to remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serve

Optionally, dust the fried donuts with powdered sugar for extra sweetness.

Serve warm and enjoy the gooey Nutella filling!
