DEEP FRIED OREOS Our “mid-week Doughnuts”!
My first experience of these was at a restaurant called Cape Town Fish Market, on my honeymoon and it became our “couple dessert”. We found them again at a restaurant called Whisk in Irene, Centurion. We kept going back there for this incredible dessert. Eventually I started cooking and now we make them together often. Serve with chocolate sauce and/or ice cream.

INGREDIENTS:
2 Packets OREO cookies (32 Oreos)
1 Cup Milk
1 Tsp Vanilla Essence
1 Large Egg
1 ½ Cup Pancake Mix
Vegetable Oil for Frying
METHOD:
1. Preheat Vegetable Oil in a pot for frying. The amount of oil needed is dependent on the pot size, you’ll need about 5-6 cm deep of oil.
2. While the oil heats up; in a large bowl mix together the Milk, Large Egg, and Vanilla Essence. Add the Pancake Mix into the bowl and mix together until well combined.
3. Once the Oil is ready, you can check this either with a thermometer (180 C) or by placing the back of a wooden spoon into the oil to see if it bubbles.
4. Dip an Oreo into the batter, coating the Oreo on both sides. Place the battered Oreo into the frying oil about 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown, repeat for each Oreo.
5. Sprinkle with icing sugar (optional) and serve warm.
